European P2P returns 12% in the year to July

Summary

European peer-to-peer lending investments returned an average of 12% in the year to July, making them the fourth-most profitable investment class of 2022.

Analysis by Croatia-based platform Robo.cash, identified P2P lending as one of the strongest portfolio additions during periods of financial instability.

Reviewing a range of indices and stocks, Robo.cash found that the largest increase in the first seven months of the year was in natural gas, up 107.8%. In second place was Brent oil, up 39.3%, followed by palladium, which increased by 15.6% during H1. P2P investments came in fourth place, with an average return of 12%.

Cryptocurrencies saw the biggest decline in returns, with losses of 67.1% over the same period. Robo.cash calculated that a combination of cryptocurrency and bond investments would have delivered some of the worst portfolio losses, while a portfolio composed of P2P investments, natural gas, Brent oil, and palladium would have delivered returns of approximately 23.8%.

Robo.cash analysts noted that ‘Economic uncertainty peaked in the first half of 2022, challenging investors to reconsider finance instruments in terms of risk-reward ratio.’
