ICO fines This Is The Big Deal Limited over PECR contraventions

Summary
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has fined energy provider and switching service This Is The Big Deal Limited £30,000 for sending unsolicited emails and texts.
This Is The Big Deal Limited sent, or instigated the sending of, more than 41.5 million unsolicited direct marketing messages (just under 40 million emails and 1.5 million text messages) to individuals who had not consented to receiving such messages.
These actions contravene Regulation 22 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
More than 102,000 of these text messages were sent without the opt-out information required by Regulation 23 of PECR.
